Honda CT90 Engine Reassembly

Image
I have one 1971 CT90 where I was going to rebuild the clutch because the kickstarter just wasn't turning over the engine like it used too,  and I also had a Big Bore kit from DrATV that I wanted to install. My intent was to just do the top end and rebuild the clutch with new disks, but when I opened up the cases to rebuild the clutch pack I found a slick black slime in the bottom of the case.  I didn't like the idea that there could be black slime in the rest of the engine, so I decided to disassemble the entire engine to make sure I cleaned everything out.  Since I was tearing everything apart I thought I would document step by step how everything goes back together in this post in case others were interested in knowing what the inner workings of a CT90 engine look like. Product Review - CT90/Honda Tail Light Lens

I recently purchased two Honda tail light lenses off of eBay from a seller named urbikeparts and the cost was $14.00 for each lens. That price also included two mounting screws and free shipping from China to my doorstep. The sellers store on eBay is Ur-Bike-Parts.

Overall I am very happy with the purchase and plan on purchasing two more that I need for a couple of other builds I am doing.  It only took about two weeks from the time I ordered the lenses on eBay until they were delivered.

Here is the link to the eBay page with the lens that is current as of 10/3/17.

The two lenses were shipped in a plastic envelope and each lens was individually packed as shown in the picture below.

In unpacking the lens I removed it from a sealed bubble style envelope and found it packaged in a sealed plastic envelope.

Taped to the back of the lens were the two included mounting screws packaged in a small ziplock bag.

Removing the bag of screws and the plastic bag I found the lens was packaged in a second sealed plastic bag. These guys really went all out to protect the lens.

After removing the lens from the last plastic bag, I found the lens to be of good quality and it looks very close if not identical to my stock Honda lens except for the marking on the lens.

The lens was marked with "SAN  TA HM-12RC" centered and across the top rear face of the lens.

The lens mounted up to a stock CT90 rear tail light bracket without any problems using the screws included with the lens. The lens looked good on my CT90 once the installation was complete.

Overall I am very happy with the fit, finish and quality of these lenses and plan on ordering two more lenses for a couple of other bikes I am trying to complete a basic build on. While it may not say Honda on the lens, these are a good functional lens that will complement your CT90 build or work well as a replacement lens.
